What Makes J Hooks the Smart Way to Hang Hooks on the Wall?

Our J wall hooks combine form and function. Their clean, simple curves fit every decor style. And their steel construction provides superior strength and durability. They’re your best choice for elegant design and heavy-duty performance.

Clean Design Meets Everyday Function

We build our J hook as a single, fluid curve that complements styles from modern and Scandinavian to rustic and industrial. You’ll find our J wall hooks blend seamlessly into any room.

The curve isn’t just stylish. The deep “J” holds items firmly in place, so you don’t have to worry about items slipping off. Its unembellished design not only gives it superior strength. It also gives an easy-to-access hanging area.

Built Stronger Than Typical Wall Hooks

Standard wall hooks use materials like plastic or aluminium. You'll soon find out they’re not suited to handle the weight of a heavy school bag or a damp winter coat.

Our hooks are crafted from a single piece of solid steel. We bend it into shape without any joints or weak points. Lesser hooks simply can’t match the load-bearing capacity of our J wall hooks.

Easier to Mount and Use

Our J wall hooks come with everything you need for a proper installation, including complete instructions and fixings for all masonry or plasterboard wall types. With two solid fixing points, you’ll have your hook installed in no time.

Our open J curve makes hanging effortless. You’ll find our hooks are ideal for busy entryways and family mudrooms. They’re designed for efficiency and utility.

How to Hang Hooks on the Wall: Step-by-Step J Wall Hooks Build Guide

Want to know how to hang hooks on the wall securely? Follow this installation guide, and you’ll have a reliable storage solution that will last a lifetime. More info at our support site here.

Step 1: Choose the Right Location and Surface

Will you be hanging coats and bags? Look for a spot near the door in your entryway or hallway. Hanging towels? Choose a bathroom wall with adequate space. Find a place near your food prep area for kitchen utensils.

Before you learn how to hang hooks in the wall, you need to know the wall material.

Solid wood surfaces and wooden wall studs provide the easiest installation. But if you're installing our hooks on a different surface, there's no need to worry. Our wall hooks come with the proper fixings and instructions for plasterboard or masonry mounting.

Step 2: Gather the Tools You’ll Need

You’ll need:

  • A drill or an electric screwdriver
  • A tape measure
  • A spirit level
  • A pencil for marking your positions

We also recommend using a stud finder to locate the wooden studs for drywall installations, as this provides the most secure mounting point.

Step 3: Mark, Measure, and Level

Decide on the height for your hooks. Then use your tape measure and pencil to make a small, clear mark. You may want to have someone hold an item at the desired height so you can visualise the final placement.

You will need the spirit level if you are installing multiple hooks in a row. Place the level on your first mark and adjust it until the bubble is centred. Draw a straight line to assist in positioning the other hooks.

Step 4: Drill Pilot Holes (If Needed)

You don’t need guide holes if you’re installing our J hooks on a wood surface.

If you are installing on a brick or masonry surface, you’ll need to drill a 6mm hole and insert the raw plug we provide into the wall by tapping with a mallet.

You should screw the drywall plugs directly into the wall for drywall installations.

Step 5: Mount Your J Hook Securely

Place the threaded cap fixings between the hook and the screws before screwing in. The screw cap will then screw onto the cap fixing to cover the screw head.

Line the holes in the J hook up with your screw marks. Then do the following:

  • Wooden surface: Drive the screw directly in with a drill or electric screwdriver on a low-torque setting. Use the 15 mm screw for a wooden surface of 11 mm or less. Use the 30 mm screw if the surface is greater than 31 mm thick.
  • Drywall: Screw the 30 mm screws directly into the plugs.
  • Masonry:  Screw the 30 mm screws directly into the plugs.

The hook should sit flush against the wall when you are completed. Be careful not to overtighten the screw, as that can strip the hole. Attach the screw cap to the cap fixings.

Tips for Screwing into Wood vs Drywall vs Concrete/Brick

Be careful not to overtighten screws when you're screwing into wood as this can strip the hole and lead to the screw slipping out over time.

Drywall crumbles easily under weight. We recommend locating and screwing directly into a wooden stud if you are going to be using the hook for anything but  light items.

Concrete or brick walls can provide a strong anchor point, but you’ll need to create a hole and hammer in the raw plugs we provide to make sure the hook is properly affixed.

Now What?

You’ve followed our instructions on how to hang hooks on the wall and everything looks solid. Now what do you do? Here are some pointers on final hook checks, and some tips on how to use J hooks stylishly.

Test the Strength Before You Load It Up

Tug downward firmly but gently on the hook after you have inserted the screw. If it feels completely solid and does not move or wriggle, hang a moderately heavy item like a winter coat.

Then try the heaviest item you will hang, like a full backpack. Investigate the installation if you notice movement. The screw may need another quarter-turn, or the plug may not be properly seated.
