Choosing a style

There are three styles here, and the choice mostly comes down to the room and what you're hanging.

The J Wall Hook is a curved hook in a range of colours, including black, greys, duck egg blue, dusty pink and forest green. Each one holds over 15kg, so it suits coats and everyday clothing in a hallway or a child's room, where a bit of colour works.

The hardwood hooks are solid wood in five finishes: oak, walnut, maple, black and white, all with a satin lacquer. These sit well in bedrooms and calmer spaces where you want the wall fitting to feel like furniture rather than hardware.

The metal hooks are CNC-machined from solid brass, in six shapes: Disk, Knurl, Conical, Hex, Bowl and Square. Every finish sits over the same solid brass body, so Brushed Brass is the natural surface, with Matt Black, Satin Copper and Industrial Nickel over it. They share their brass shapes and finishes with our cabinet knobs and handles, so a hook by the door can match the hardware on your cupboards and drawers.

Sizes

The metal hooks come in three sizes, measured across the face of the hook. 18mm is small, sized for keys, lanyards and light accessories. 30mm is the middle size, good for hand towels, bags and lighter clothing. 40mm gives the most bearing surface and suits heavier coats and loaded bags.

What they hold

Every hook here is rated conservatively at 7kg or more, and the J hook holds 15kg or more, as long as your wall fixings can take the load. The fixing matters as much as the hook. Every hook ships with high-quality hardware for brick, wood and plasterboard, so you have the right fixings for the wall you have. On plasterboard, for heavy use, fix on or near a stud, or use at least one expanding or butterfly plug per hook; for everyday use the standard fixings are fine.

Fitting

Every hook fixes to the wall with screws. Into wood or a stud, screw straight in; into brick, drill and use the wall plug supplied. On plasterboard, for heavy use, fix on or near a stud, or use at least one expanding or butterfly plug per hook. A hook is only as strong as the fixing behind it, so it is worth getting this part right.

FAQ

What can wall hooks hold?

Every hook is rated conservatively at 7kg or more, and the J Wall Hook holds 15kg or more, as long as the wall fixings can take it. For heavy use on plasterboard, fix on or near a stud, or use at least one expanding or butterfly plug per hook; standard fixings are fine for everyday use.

What size hook should I choose?

For the metal hooks, 18mm suits keys and light accessories, 30mm is the middle size for towels and lighter clothing, and 40mm suits coats and bags. The size is the diameter of the hook's face.

Are these suitable for coats?

Yes. Coats, clothing, towels and bags in a hallway, bedroom or bathroom are what these are for; for heavier coats, the J hook is the strongest. If it is specifically a hallway coat rail you are after, our coat hooks range has the same hooks, chosen for coats.

How do I fit them?

Each hook screws to the wall, and the box contains high-quality hardware for brick, wood and plasterboard. Screw straight into wood or a stud; into brick, use the wall plug provided; on plasterboard, for heavy use, fix on or near a stud, or use at least one expanding or butterfly plug per hook.

What finishes are available?

The J hook comes in colours including black, greys, duck egg blue, dusty pink and forest green. The hardwood hooks come in oak, walnut, maple, black and white. The metal hooks are solid brass, in Brushed Brass (the natural surface), Industrial Nickel, Matt Black and Satin Copper, each finish over the same brass body.
