More space, not less
A desk shelf takes up a strip of your desk and gives you more room than you started with. The monitor moves up onto the shelf, and the space underneath comes back into play: the keyboard slides under when you're not typing, and the everyday clutter of a desk tucks out of the way. The effect is strongest on small desks; on a 60cm desk you keep almost the full surface workable, which is more working room than the bare desk gave you.
Laptop at eye level
With a separate keyboard, a desk shelf raises a laptop to a comfortable screen height, so it works as a proper primary display rather than something you hunch over. That's how Adam runs his own: laptop on the shelf as the main screen. Tom's sits under a normal monitor, speakers on the shelf beside it, books tucked underneath to keep the desk clear.
Strong enough to stand on
Any monitor sits happily on it: a single screen, a dual setup or an ultrawide. Every board is built on an AA-grade Baltic birch plywood core, the same stock we cut our desk tops from, on a rigid pair of riser legs, and it is more than strong enough for a person to stand on. A monitor asks nothing of it.
Match your desk, or mix it
The finishes mirror our desk tops: oak, walnut and birch plywood, plus white and grey Formica, so a shelf can match your top exactly, and our desk bundles pair them from the start. Mixing works just as well: an oak desk under a white shelf, with the exposed plywood edge running through both to tie the look together. The riser legs come in black only, and that's deliberate: black matches the accents already on most desks, your keyboard and mouse included, and sits comfortably under every top colour.
Sizing
Every shelf is 25cm deep with around 12cm of clearance underneath, enough for a keyboard or a row of books. Lengths run 90, 120 and 150cm: match your desk width, or run a shorter shelf and keep a lamp spot beside it.
