Damaged & Faulty Items

  • Please inspect your order upon arrival.
  • If anything arrives damaged or faulty, email hello@hairpin.com within 7 days with photos of the product and packaging.
  • Where a return is required, please keep the original packaging so we can arrange the safest return.

Assembled Items

Returns are not accepted on assembled desks and ready-made items once assembled. Please inspect thoroughly before assembly.

Material Considerations

Raw steel table legs:

  • May develop surface rust over time if unpainted or stored/used in humid conditions.
  • Should arrive with an appropriate protective coating for transit/storage.
  • May require periodic maintenance (cleaning/protecting) if left unfinished.
  • Items that have rusted due to storage or use after delivery are not eligible for return as “faulty”.

Outdoor Use

Products suitable for outdoor use include:

  • Zinc table legs
  • Stainless steel table legs

All other products are not rated for outdoor use unless explicitly stated on the product page.

Engineered for Makers, Designed for Durability

Our products are crafted with precision and built to withstand everyday use. To keep them looking their best:

  • Use them as intended – This guarantee applies to indoor, non-commercial use only. For products sold as suitable for outdoor use, see our Outdoor Guarantee.
  • Handle with care – Touch up any chips or scratches to protect the finish.
  • Consider your surroundings – Coastal air can accelerate wear on painted steel.

FAQ

Why use plywood instead of solid wood?

AA-grade Baltic birch plywood is a deliberate engineering choice. It is technically superior to solid wood in many ways, and we love the look of it: clean, modern, and honest about what it is. Cross-grain ply construction is more dimensionally stable than solid timber, stronger and flatter under load, and requires no traditional skirting, keeping the look clean, maximising leg room, and letting the legs do the visual work.

What does AA-grade mean?

AA-grade is a face grade: it means neither face carries oval repair patches or filled knots. Most plywood — even quality grades sold at hardware stores — allows 3 to 6 patches per face. It's a specialist grade, seldom stocked outside trade suppliers.

How is this different from MDF or chipboard?

MDF and chipboard are cost compromises: materials chosen to reduce price, not improve performance. AA-grade Baltic birch plywood is the opposite: a structural material chosen because a tabletop deserves it. The layered build is deliberately visible at all four sealed edges.
