Choosing the right size legs

We make legs in a variety of standard heights:

You can find more detailed information about what height legs will be best for you here.

Will the legs be strong enough?

  • Short legs (under 40cm) – Shorter legs are inherently stronger and stiffer than their taller counterparts. You will be hard pressed to build something on small legs where weight is an issue. If you have any specific concerns, get in touch.

For our taller leg options, you can find weight loading guidelines for our different options here:

Will I need extra legs?

A single set of legs should be sufficient for most tabletops up to 1.8m - 2m long. For longer tables (2m+) please read our guide here.

Choosing the right finish

Our metal table legs are made with mild steel. We offer a number of different finish options to suit your project:

  • Raw Steel – This is uncoated steel in its natural form and will rust if left unfinished (indoors as well as out). We offer this option for those looking for a rusted industrial look or wanting to apply their own finish.
  • Clear Coat – These legs have a clear powder coat layer over the steel to protect them from rusting while maintaining the natural colour of the steel.
  • Colour Powder Coats – We offer all of our legs in a black powder coat, and the hairpins come in a variety of other colours too.
  • Electro-plated options – We currently offer hairpin legs electro-plated in Copper, Brass, Chrome, and Zinc.
  • Outdoor finishes – Some of our finishes are suitable for use outdoors. You can find all of our outdoor grade leg options here.

You can find some detailed guides on choosing the right finish here.

What's included?

All of our legs come with free wood screws and appropriate floor protectors.

How do I attach the legs, and what tools will I need?

With screws included, attaching our legs to your project should be very simple. We just recommend a few things:

  • A tape measure to get the positions of the legs in the right place
  • A pencil to mark the positions of the screw holes
  • A drill to predrill guide holes for the screws. We recommend a 2.5mm diameter guide hole for soft woods and a 3mm diameter guide hole for hard woods
  • A screwdriver to screw the legs in

That should cover almost everything you need to consider when choosing some of our legs. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

The Legs Make the Table

TIG and MIG welded steel tube in six industrial shapes. Add your top, and it's furniture.

Backed by our 5-year guarantee

  • MADE FOR MAKERS: Designed specifically for DIYers, makers, and professionals. Manufactured using a combination of modern CNC techniques and traditional handmade craftsmanship, these table legs will add both stability and industrial style to any furniture project.
  • HEAVY-DUTY: Able to support the very heaviest projects safely and stably. Constructed from laser-cut 75mm x 25mm box section, an extra thick base plate and full TIG welding; these are rock solid! Rest assured these will hold the very heaviest tables or a bench of your entire extended family!
  • SUITABLE FOR ANY PROJECT: Sized to work with tables from 60cm to 134cm wide and benches up to 35cm wide. These legs are a perfect match for wood, metal, concrete or any other interesting tops you can come up with!
  • PROFESSIONAL FINISHES: Available in a range of powder coat finishes and a raw steel option too. All powder coats are satin finish and provide a tough protective layer. The clear powder coat results in an almost invisible protective layer. Our unique surface conditioning operation on all steel provides a beautifully clean and uniform look. Our coatings are recommended for indoor use only, for outdoor furniture we recommend choosing the raw steel option and painting them with an exterior metal paint.
  • RAW STEEL OPTION: 100% natural uncoated steel option available, for furniture makers who want to apply their own finish. This allows you to paint the legs however you like, or use them for industrial pieces that will rust over time. Please note these legs will rust if left untreated, even indoors.
  • HAPPINESS OR YOUR MONEY BACK: If you're dissatisfied for any reason with your box section legs, return them within 60 days for a no-questions-asked refund.

The range

Choose Your Shape

Square, A-Frame, Trapezium, V-Frame, X-Frame or Chunky X-Frame: six shapes, same steel, same build. Pick the look that suits your room; the table works the same way.

The engineering

No Wobble. No Flex.

Thick mounting plates with slotted fixing holes let a solid wood top expand and contract across the grain through the seasons without straining against the screws, so the mounting stays solid all year. Our everyday guidance is 150kg per pair, set conservatively and well short of a breaking point.

The feet

Feet for Every Floor

Self-adhesive felt pads come in the box with every set: all most tables ever need. Uneven floor? Swap to levelling feet. Commercial wear? Locking feet, as fitted to our outdoor range. Choose from the foot selector above.

FAQ

How do I attach the legs to a table top?

Each leg fixes flat to the underside of your top through the mounting plate, using the 5mm x 25mm wood screws supplied. The plate has slotted holes so a solid wood top can expand and contract across the grain through the seasons without straining against the screws. Your top needs to be at least 18mm thick to give the screws enough grip. Mark up, pilot-drill, and screw down: a drill is the only tool you need, and a step-by-step guide comes with every set. Lift rather than drag the finished table when you move it and the fixings stay tight. If you would rather talk it through first, we are on the phone, email and WhatsApp.

How strong are box section legs?

At table and desk height, as a guide a set carries up to 150kg with a well-built top. That figure is deliberately conservative everyday guidance rather than a breaking point: it is about the table feeling solid in daily use with no wobble, flex or movement. At bench height we think in people rather than kilos, and a set suits benches seating up to five. At coffee height they suit any coffee table top. The frame is TIG and MIG welded into one piece, so every joint is a continuous bead rather than a stamped spot weld. One exception: the standard X-Frame at table height, where we guide to 80kg because the cross geometry carries load differently.

What is the difference between the six designs?

All six share the same 75 x 25mm steel and the same welding, so the choice is about how you want the table to look. Square is a plain square, straight lines and simple. A-Frame angles in as it rises and is the most traditional profile. Trapezium is wide at the base and tapers slightly to the top for a modern look. V-Frame is the trapezium inverted, widest at the top. X-Frame is as named. Chunky X-Frame steps up to a heavier 70 x 70mm profile and is the most substantial of the six.
